🤔Reflections on my first Neuro Diversity celebration

Week commencing March 18th was my first Neuro Diversity celebration

Week commencing March 18th was my first Neuro Diversity celebration that I had

Hopefully that was the first of many Neuro diversity celebrations to come. It was probably the period I’ve spoken about my neuro difference the most. I had deep conversations with the HR staff about it (who is also a neuro divergent).

We spoke about our specific symptoms, the strengths we have in common such as our out of the box thinking, creativity. I spoke about the support I think I’ll need. I really felt like I immersed myself in the neuro diverse realm.

I’m fortunate that the company has resources on their employer assisted programs that shows awareness on this from an employee and line manager perspective.

I used this week as an opportunity to speak to my manager about my neuro difference. As my manager is aware of the resources and my neuro difference, we have an understanding, easy working relation and expectations are managed very well thus far.

I am working to my strengths; when busy, stressed and potentially overwhelmed, I’m allowed to isolate myself enabling me to get serious work done and limit distraction.

The best part is, I can do that without being conscious or anxious about appearing to be ‘anti-social’ or not a ‘team player’ and any other negative connotations associated with choosing to work alone.

Very soon I’ll be having ADHD Coaching to help me finesse my goal settings. Really looking forward to it and will be sharing my knowledge and experiences of it.
