PLUS: Why So Many with ADHD Struggle with Sleep

Tech moves fast, but you're still playing catch-up?
That's exactly why 100K+ engineers working at Google, Meta, and Apple read The Code twice a week.
Here's what you get:
Curated tech news that shapes your career - Filtered from thousands of sources so you know what's coming 6 months early.
Practical resources you can use immediately - Real tutorials and tools that solve actual engineering problems.
Research papers and insights decoded - We break down complex tech so you understand what matters.
All delivered twice a week in just 2 short emails.

From starting the world, seeing things differently, and struggling to fit in socially. The pressure to mask so you don’t stand out like a sore thumb, but in the midst of masking, we’re trynna figure out ways to bridge that gap between where we are now, and where we need to be by “societal standards”.
The birth of our anxiety for the neurodivergent
This messes with the mental health, as a result, you either
keep yourself to yourself, or
continue to mask
Keeping yourself to yourself runs the risk of being singled out. Continuing to mask is like giving your anxiety Adderall. Pick your poison!
Sometimes the mask is blown out, and you’re exposed. This exposure can look like you being:
a “nerd”
“dumb”
“slow”
ultimately different
It fucks with your mentals, is exhausting, and is directly linked to
Heightened anxiety
Depression
Burnout
Suicidal ideation
“You’re Sensitive”
Some of us neurodivergent might be sensitive, so we hold onto these feelings of rejection and other forms of “bullying”; we’re like elephants, we don’t forget, we make mental notes…
For some of us who find our uniqueness and strengths that come with being neurodivergent; It can somewhat add value, and as a result, we’re back in the social charts again.
The safe zone
This transition in life is quite interesting because this is where it’s easier to be yourself, ultimately masking less and thanking God that you’re not the “sore thumb” you once were.
Don’t judge me, but I’m like 50 Cent when it comes to being petty. I’ll remind the people who “name-called” me that the tide has changed. I’m sorry, but I’m not sorry.
Finally
It might feel vindicating for some of us neurodivergents who were able to get through the early challenges, but the journey continues.
It’s a continuous battle, but when I think about the number of neurodivergents that I know who weren’t able to get through those challenges…
It’s heartbreaking to think about what they could have become in a different environment or set of circumstances.
