ADHD + Nicotine = 🤯

An Exec's experience with it

DEEP DIVE

Billions of people worldwide consume Nicotine daily

I listen to the neuroscientist Andrew Huberman a lot, particularly his podcast on ways to improve my brain performance.

I recently stumbled across one episode on Nicotine and its effects on the brain and body.

He has a couple of podcasts on this, I'll share the link below. I'm not here to sell nicotine to anyone. But I wanna share a neurodivergents’ nicotine experience that I had a week ago.

I smoked a cigar last week to celebrate the week ending.

My manager was off sick for the week and the responsibility fell on me to pick up. Well, I smashed it, and to treat myself I bought myself a cigar to enjoy over the weekend while the wife and kids were away. Perfect time to recharge.

Back to the podcast from Andrew Huberman.

Did you know that Nicotine can be found in:

  • Tomatoes

  • Potatoes

  • Egg Plants

  • Sweet Peppers

It's said to be highly addictive and I think I know why people love smoking (This is my third cigar ever).

I’m mindful that as a neurodivergent with ADHD, I may exhibit the “addictive personality” and have to be mindful not to ‘use and abuse’ something as addictive as Nicotine.

Sidenote

Upon smoking the cigar, I think it gave me extra dopamine and it heightened my focus and concentration.

I felt really:

  • Pumped up and ready for any challenge life could throw at me

  • Motivated

  • More Alert

  • And I wasn’t hungry for a long time!

I don't think I've felt like this before, even after drinking an espresso and I'm not exaggerating!

As I write this newsletter piece, I'm still feeling the effects of nicotine (from the cigar) two hours later!

I want this feeling forever! (probably the reason why people find it difficult to quit smoking).

If you know me I'm super health conscious, very active (I work out 4/5 times a week) and I fully know the long-term implications of smoking.

So at some point, I'm gonna consider putting a halt to cigars. But I'll definitely be exploring and researching safer ways to consume nicotine in isolation.

On the other hand, as I don't drink, do any recreational drugs, and work out regularly, I guess I can “pick my poison” in continuing the expensive habits with my cigars

The focus and mood enhancement I had would immensely help me with work and the challenges that come with it.

This is a general chat about nicotine:
