➕✖️ADHD + Autism = AuDHD

My new name is AuDHD Exec

Hey!

This is Neuro Diverse Diary! The weekly Newsletter for professionals with Neuro Differences. It’s that time for another insight into our different world!

I’ve signed my name change in my ‘affidavit’.

The ADHD AuDHD Exec

Since I've had my formal ADHD diagnosis, I've been on this journey of self-discovery and 'what else?'.

I'm constantly reviewing myself, and my habits to help me get a further understanding of this neurodiverse world.

I spoke about my ADHD diagnosis journey here.

Childhood Snapshot:

So, I called my mum and asked her for a recollection of my early childhood, the dialogue went something like the below:

Me: "Mum, how was I as a kid overall, socially etc?"

Mum: "I'll be honest with you son, it wasn't great. 1) You'd prefer to play on your own rather than with other kids, 2) You had a speech delay 3) I was super clingy to a select few as a kid, and wouldn't let anyone else in"

Me: "Mum, based on those three symptoms, that sounds like an autistic kid"

Mum: "But look at you now son, you're doing very well for yourself"

In fairness she should've flagged this as a concern to the doctors, enabling me to get whatever support I would've required.

I didn't wanna make her feel bad for the fact that she missed this. My parents were immigrants, and survival was probably their number one priority for them.

A suspected autistic kid was the least of their problems at that time.

While other kids played tag, I was probably busy organising my crayons by colour.

Now I organise my work notes into meticulously labeled folders on my Microsoft Onenote

What's next?

I don’t think I'm gonna bother with a formal diagnosis in all fairness, I'm convinced I display symptoms:

  • Now and

  • Since childhood.

I was certain I was an ADHDer before I was officially diagnosed. It's quite pricey too I spent $1,000 for an ADHD assessment.

An assessment for Autism will pretty much be the same price.

SO, I'm gonna run with The AuDHD Exec. Watch this space!
